About this guide
Currency Exchange Calgary is an independent guide to exchanging money in Calgary. It exists to answer one question honestly: where should you actually go, and why.
Mike Taylor is a Canadian financial writer who covers currency exchange, bank fees, and everyday money decisions. He researches and maintains this guide, calls Calgary providers to check their rates, and reviews each page on the date shown at the top of it.
How we research and score
Every business on the site is checked against primary sources, not copied from another list. For each provider we look at:
- Registration with FINTRAC as a money services business, verified on the public registry.
- Better Business Bureau accreditation and rating.
- Google rating and review volume.
- Rate competitiveness, checked by phone on the same day for a fair comparison.
- Whether the company is Canadian owned and operated.
- Years in business and the range of services offered.
Each factor carries a fixed weight, and the full scoring method is published on the methodology section of the main guide. Rankings are our transparent, evidence-based opinion. They are not statements of fact about any business.
How we stay independent and current
We do not take payment from any provider in exchange for a ranking or a place on the list. We remove businesses that have closed, that we cannot verify, or that are not really currency exchanges. Rates and registrations change, so we re-check the data and stamp each page with the date it was last reviewed.
